VIDEO: The best tributes on the 20th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s death
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the passing of Formula One’s greatest and most daring driver Ayrton Senna.
The Brazilian became an unrivalled star of the sport with his eccentricity, uncompromising will to win, charm and above all inimitable driving style.
As the racing world today remembers one of its greatest ever drivers, we take a look at some of the best tributes to the great man:
As a huge fan of his beloved Corinthians, Senna would no doubt be honoured by the club’s tribute during last night’s Copa do Brasil match with Nacional where the players emerged from the dressing room each carrying a replica of Senna’s famous yellow helmet.
Corinthians were not the only people to focus on the helmet as Brazilian airline Azul painted the recognisable helmet on the nose of one of their planes.

David Coulthard was perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea throughout his career, but as the man who took Senna’s racing seat at Williams, the Scot spoke genuinely and affectionately of the man he referred to as “a legend”.
McLaren F1’s tribute is based on the lap known as the greatest in the history of the entire sport – Senna’s final qualifying lap at the 1988 Monaco Grand Prix. Interspersed with quotes from Senna, the clip makes for riveting viewing.
Finally, if you have never seen the fantastic documentary eponymously named ‘Senna’, you can catch it tonight on ITV4. As a taster, here is the final scene of the documentary.
