The sweet tweet of victory: Sporting selfies were everywhere this weekend

From the Academy Awards to the All-Ireland Club championships, Ellen DeGeneres has a lot to answer for now that a host of GAA players have gotten in on the group selfie act.
The Oscars host’s viral tweet set off a chain reaction of similar shots for weeks afterwards and now, they’ve reached the biggest day of the club season here at home.

Cian Healy was fist off the mark from an Irish perspective though, tweeting this group shot of the newly crowned Six Nations champions from the depths of the Stade de France changing rooms.

Not to be out-done, the Irish players' better-halves then lined up for their own version of the Healy selfie courtesy of the prop’s girlfriend Holly Carpenter.

Across the Irish Sea, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Sczesny celebrated their derby victory over North London rivals Spurs with an on-pitch effort on Sunday.

Celebrating an even bigger victory were the Portumna lads who claimed their fourth All-Ireland Hurling Club Championship at Croke Park yesterday and captured the celebrations courtesy of top-
scorer Joe Canning.

The later game spawned yet another dressing room shot as St Vincent’s ruled supreme over Castlebar Mitchels to claim the football title and shared their moment of glory with all their fans too, courtesy of Eamon Fennell.
Given the propensity for sports stars to whip out their smartphones this weekend, we’re fairly certain it won’t be long before we see the next batch of celebratory-selfies and as long as the trophies keep piling up, we won’t mind one little bit either.
