VIDEO: NBA star’s dad erupts with pride during heart-warming courtside interview

Chicago Bulls centre Joakim Noah is in the form of his life this season in the absence of star teammate Derrick Rose and produced another talismanic performance Sunday evening against the Miami Heat.

Averaging 11.3 rebounds per game along with 12.2 points, Noah has assumed the responsibility of guiding his side through the regular season with aplomb and is even being mentioned as a possible MVP candidate.

Against the Heat, Noah racked up 20 points and 12 rebounds against LeBron James’s reigning NBA champions and the excitement got to one fan a little more than most as the Bulls won 95-88 after overtime.

Thankfully it was all caught live on camera.

During a courtside interview Noah’s dad Yannick couldn’t help himself from expressing his joy at seeing his son perform so well.

As Noah batted away LeBron’s attempt on the court his dad did likewise off it, ignoring the live interview as his emotions took over.

What Noah did might not be jaw-dropping or flashy but the real magic was the reaction it elicited from his dad.

The result was, in Mr Noah’s own words, “so much special.”

As for Joakim’s take on it all?

“I can’t wait to celebrate this win with him,” he said.

“I know that he’s a nervous wreck during games. I always tell him to drink a brewski and just chill.”

We hope he doesn’t take his son’s advice anytime soon and we see more unbridled joy in the crowd before too long.

Tennis fans of a certain vintage will of course note that dad is no stranger to sporting stardom.

The elder Noah beat Swede Mats Wilander in straight sets to claim the French Open in 1983 and was also part of France's succesful Davis Cup teams for 11 years, captaining them to victory in 1991.
