Italy becomes fourth country to get Sochi terror threat

Italy’s Olympic Committee has confirmed it has received an email containing terrorist threats ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Federations from Germany, Hungary and Slovenia have also reportedly received letters with similar content.

Today’s statement from the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) read: “CONI announces it has received this morning an email containing terrorist threats in view of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

“From what CONI is aware, an analogue mail has been sent to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and to other Olympic Committees.

“CONI has transmitted the content of the mail to the given authority in charge of international security.

“At the same time the Italian Olympic Committee wishes to state trust and serenity in the safety measures that have been guaranteed by the IOC organisers, the international federations and the Olympic Committee.”

Russia’s Winter Olympics runs from February 6-23.
