Joe Ward and Jason Quigley have both secured medals at the World Championships in Kazakhstan today.

Quigley won all three rounds of his quarter-final this morning and Ward booked his place in the semi-finals of the light-heavyweight division after stopping his fight against Russia's Nikita Ivanov in the first round after opening up a cut on his opponent's forehead.

The pair are now guaranteed to take home bronze medals at least and will be fighting for a place in the finals when they return to the ring on Friday.

It is the first time that Ireland have secured two medals at the World Championships.

There was disappointment for the rest of the squad today however as Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan and Tommy McCarthy all missed out on a medal.

Barnes lost in controversial circumstances to Jasurbek Latipov of Uzbekistan.

During the morning session, Conlan and McCarthy both suffered narrow defeats in their quarter-finals.
