Taylor through to EU championship final
Katie Taylor will box for her fifth EU Championship lightweight title on the trot tomorrow after seeing off Finland's Mira Potkonen at the semi-final stage.
Taylor proved too strong for Potkonen in today's semi-final, securing a unanimous decision over the four two-minute rounds in Keszthely, Hungary.
The woman standing between the Olympic champion and another EU crown is France's Estelle Mosselly, who surprisingly got the better of Natasha Jonas of England on a split decision.
There was further success for Ireland in the senior section of the Championships as heavyweight Leanne Murphy from Carrickmacross booked her place in tomorrow's 81kg+ final with a unanimous decision over Croatian Dainjela Vernic.
Murphy is now guaranteed at least a silver medal with Sylwia Kusiak of Poland or Turkey's Emine Bozduman battling it out to be her opponent in the deciding bout.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny's Claire Grace, a member of the Callan club, will finish in bronze position in the welterweight division after losing her semi-final to French woman Erika Guerrier on a unanimous decision.
Between the youth, junior and senior competitions in Hungary, the Irish women will be bringing home a record eight silver, at least, and six bronze medals. Tomorrow's finals get underway at 1pm Irish time.
