Kebede triumphs in London Marathon
Ethiopia’s Tsegaye Kebede has won the men’s race at the Virgin London Marathon in an unofficial time of two hours six minutes three seconds.
Kebede timed his race to perfection has he chased down runaway leader Emmanuel Mutai, passing the Kenyan in the final mile to win.
The 26-year-old was 49 seconds adrift in fifth place at the 35km mark, but finished strongly to cross the line in an unofficial time of 2:06.04.
The tiring Mutai, who hit the front between the 36 and 37km marks and looked on course for victory before being reeled in, hung on for second place, some 30 seconds back.
Kebede’s fellow Ethiopian Ayele Abshero was third.
