Paralympic opening ceremony set to be 'spectacular'

Just weeks after the Olympic Games, it is now the turn of our Paralympic athletes to take centre stage.

Team Ireland has 49 athletes taking part in 10 sports at the London event, which officially begins tonight.

Tickets for the games are sold out.

Communications Officer with Paralympics Ireland, John Fulham says tonight's opening ceremony promises to be spectacular.

"The organising committee have kept the opening ceremony plan firmly under wraps. I can tell you it will be centred on enlightenment but apart from that I haven't actually received an information pack on it and I won't do so until later on today.

"It's going to kick off at half past eight and I'm quite confident from an opening ceremony perspective that it will be very spectacular."

Team Ireland is hoping to win at least five medals at the London Paralympics.
