Team Ireland to be honoured in Dublin

Two official homecoming ceremonies for Team Ireland are to take place in Dublin today.

The athletes who competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games will be honoured during a public event at the Mansion House at lunchtime.

Following the civic ceremony, the Government will host a private reception for the team at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park.

Many Team Ireland athletes - including boxers Katie Taylor, John Joe Nevin, Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan - have already been given huge 'welcome home' receptions following their medal winnings at the London Games.

Today, the achievements of all 66 members of the team will be acknowledged at civic and Government events in the capital.

At 1pm Dublin's Lord Mayor Naoise O'Muiri and the Minister of State for Sport Michael Ring will welcome the athletes home during an hour-long event outside the Mansion House on Dawson Street, which will be closed to traffic between 6am and 5pm.

Entry will be via Nassau Street and St. Stephen’s Green North only and people attending are advised to get there early.

At 4pm the Taoiseach Enda Kenny will host a private reception for Team Ireland at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park.
