Nevin: Means a lot to represent culture
John Joe Nevin says he will always stay true to his Traveller roots.
Speaking as thousands celebrated his Olympic silver medal in Cusack Park yesterday evening, Nevin said he's thrilled both the Travelling and settled communities are taking pride in his success.
An estimated 6,000 people paraded through Mullingar last night behind an open top bus carrying the town's two Olympians John Joe Nevin and Joseph Murphy.
Speaking to Midlands 103 at the event, John Joe said the support meant a lot: "Well I like to represent my community and I've never hidden from my roots and where I've come from.
"It means a lot to represent my country, my town and my culture, I'm no different to anyone else and Mullingar showed that by turning up and giving me and Joseph some great support."
