CAS reject Russia sailing appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have rejected Russia’s appeal against the decision to declare Spain winner of yesterday’s women’s match racing semi-final.

The Russian Olympic Committee this morning filed an application against International Sailing Federation (ISAF) for their decision to allow Spain to progress to the gold medal match against Australia.

With light winds playing havoc on the south coast, yesterday’s best-of-five series became a best-of-three clash that Spain went onto win.

Russia requested that CAS annulled the ISAF’s decision to cancel races four and five and declare Spain winners, instead asking for semi-final racing to continue this morning.

However, CAS dismissed their appeal at 11.45am and Ekaterina Skudina’s Russia instead faced Finland for bronze this afternoon, losing 3-1.
