Track and field disappoints for Ireland this morning

It has been a disappointing day so far for Team Ireland at London 2012, with three Irish competitors bowing out.

Aileen Morrison was forced to settle for 43rd position in the Women’s triathlon.

Despite a strong performance in the water, a fall on the cycling leg cost her dearly and she was unable to recover.

Tori Pena's Olympics are also over. The American-born pole vaulter failed to clear her first height of 4.1 metres after three attempts.

In the Women’s steeplechase, Stephanie Reilly came up short in her bid to qualify for the final, finishing ninth in her Heat.

However, there was some good news in rowing, with Sanita Puspure putting in a great performance this morning in winning the C Final in the Womens Single Sculls. The victory leaves her in 13th overall in the standings.

In track cycling, Martin Irvine got his Men's Omnium campaign off to a decent start.

The Newtonard man logged a time of 13.5 seconds in this morning’s Flying Lap, leaving him in ninth place ahead of this evenings Points and Elimination races.
