Personal best not enough for McMahon to progress
Sycerika McMahon has failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the 200m Individual Medley in the Olympics today.
McMahon, who was placed 22nd overall, swam a personal best time of 2:14:76 in her heat, but it was not enough to get into the top 16 times for the event.
However, her time means that she gains 11 places in the rankings as compared to her pre-Games ranking.
Despite this, she feels she could have done better.
McMahon said: "I would like to have gone faster, if I am being truthful about it, but I suppose that is for another race.
"I am just happy that I gave it my all, I couldn't have done any better."
McMahon had at one point turned in fifth place, but had then fought back to get in front at one point.
She said: "My breaststroke is my strong point, so I just gave everything in that, because the backstroke is not my strongest in the race. Unfortunately, I think my freestyle suffered a little, because I put so much effort into that breastroke."
It comes after the Portaferry teenager finished eighth in her Olympics 100m breaststroke heat yesterday.
