Rheinisch through to kayaking semis
Eoin Rheinisch is comfortably through to the semi-finals of the K1 kayaking at the Olympic Games.
He said that it was plain sailing for him after a strong opening run left him in sixth place. A top 15 place was required to move on to the next round.
It's nice to be stress-free and through on the first run
I knew the first run was probably good enough. So I feel relieved and lucky that that was the case this time around.
It's always nice to go up to your second run not feeling under that immense pressure that if you hadn't done it in the first run.
Rheinisch successfully appealed a penalty incurred during his first run, but later confessed that he didn't know much about it.
"I wasn't really aware of that whole thing," he said. "I crossed the line and looked at the scoreboard and saw the penalty.
"You get so close to some of these poles … you don't even know. Sometimes your past it and the back of the boat pops up and touches something.
"So that side of things, the coach and the team manager would check over video when you see a penalty.
"They may have put in an appeal, or it may have just been taken off quickly , I'm not exactly sure how that went."
