Phelps hits back in Olympic trials
Michael Phelps got even with Ryan Lochte as he won the 200-metre freestyle at the United States Olympic trials.
Lochte gained the psychological edge by beating Phelps in the 400m medley on Monday, but today it was the 26-year-old who came out on top.
Phelps clocked a time of one minute 45.70 seconds, just 0.05 seconds ahead of Lochte, meaning as with the medley both men qualified for London 2012.
Elsewhere, 17-year-old Missy Franklin and Rachel Bootsma booked their places in the women’s 100m backstroke, while Matt Grevers and Nick Thoman were first and second in the men’s event.
Breeja Larson and Rebecca Soni came through the 100m breaststroke.
