Lopez marches on

Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez reached the quarter-finals of the BMW Open in Munich today after seeing off Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4 7-6 (7/4) in 86 minutes.

The 30-year-old Lopez will face fifth seed Bernard Tomic in the last eight after the Australian kept his nerve in the decider to defeat Italy’s Potito Starace 6-1 6-7 (4/7) 6-3.

German fourth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber advanced with a 7-5 6-3 win over Ernests Gulbis of Latvia, and Australian Marinko Matosevic won the battle of the qualifiers against Colombia’s Robert Farah 6-1 6-7 (2/7) 6-2.
