Lee to get world title shot

Limerick's Andy Lee has been handed a WBC middleweight world title shot.

The former Olympian will take on Julio Chavez Jr in Texas on June 16.

It is hoped the winner will meet Matthew Macklin's conqueror Sergio Martinez.

"I can beat up Chavez and it will make me a star and then I can beat Martinez and that will make me a superstar," the boxer was quoted as saying.

"All the terms have been agreed upon and Andy Lee is going to get his shot at a middleweight belt," said promoter Lou Di Bella.

"It's a fight that Lee has really been salivating over.

"He's wanted it really badly and it looks like he has it on June 16 in El Paso, Texas."
