Another win for Irish women in Olympic qualifiers

Ireland's drag-flickers found their groove to make it two wins out of two at the Athlon FIH Road to London Olympic qualifier in Beerschot, Belgium after a 3-0 win over Russia today.

Birthday girl Michelle Harvey gave the Irish a first-half lead before Cork's Audrey O'Flynn powered home the second just before half-time from another short corner.

Her former UCC and current Hermes club team-mate Aine Connery celebrated her 50th cap in green but it was O'Flynn who was celebrating again eight minutes into the second half when she powered a drag-flick to the top right corner.

Gene Muller's side now have a rest day tomorrow before clashing with another relative minnow, Mexico, on Tuesday, with the coach again satisfied with his side's performance.

"Our corners were very good today and we performed well overall, playing with good structure and precision against a tricky opponent," said Muller.

"The team are looking forward to a rest day tomorrow and on the back of two good wins."
