Bantamweight John Joe Nevin and Kilkenny middleweight Darren O'Neill have earned spots at the London Olympics next summer with wins in their last 16 bouts at the World championship in Baku.

Bantamweight John Joe Nevin and Kilkenny middleweight Darren O'Neill have earned spots at the London Olympics next summer with wins in their last 16 bouts at the World championship in Baku.

O'Neill won his bout 19-12 against a Bulgarian opponenent while Nevin beat his Mongolian opppoenent on a countback after the bout finished 18 apiece.

Earlier Joe Ward lost his last 16 bout on countback after the contest finished with both fighters on 15 points, a win would have qualified him for London.

This evening Michael Conlon, Roy Sheehan, David Oliver Joyce and Con Sheehan are all in action.

Con Sheehan needs to reach the semi-finals in order to guarantee his place in London next Summer while the rest will all go through with wins today.
