A powerful sprint saw Mark Cavendish rack up the third victory of his career in the Scheldeprijs Classic.

Cavendish outgunned Russian Denis Galimzyanov and Yauheni Hutarovich of Belarus to win the 200-kilometre one-day race in Belgium.

The HTC-Highroad rider, who also won the event in 2007 and 2008, said: “I’m racing a lot this season, and I’ve had some bad luck, so it’s good I can get the wins in, too.

The 25-year-old will continue his build up to the Tour de France in the Paris-Roubaix event, before tackling the Tour of Italy and the Tour de Suisse.
