Hankey bows out of BDO World Championships
There was a notable exit on the second day of the BDO World Championships at Frimley Green as former world champion Ted Hankey was hammered 3-0 by sixth seed Scott Waites.
Two-time winner Hankey only had a handful of chances throughout as Waites eased through.
“Scott was better,” Hankey told BBC Sport. “It’s as simple as that. He was the better man today.”
In the other first-round matches of the day, third seed Dean Winstanley got the better of Martin Atkins 3-2, while Robbie Green crushed Andy Boulton 3-0.
“I can play much better than that but maybe that’s a good thing,” Green said.
Eleventh seed Brian Woods also went out, losing 3-0 to Stephen Bunting.
