Taylor cruises through in Dublin

Nine-time World Grand Prix champion Phil Taylor made a flawless start to his 2010 campaign with a comfortable first-round victory over Brendan Dolan at Dublin's CityWest Hotel last night.

Taylor was a 3-0 3-0 winner as he outclassed his opponent on day one.

Andy Smith will play the reigning champion after coming from behind to beat Jamie Caven 1-3 3-1 3-2.

Terry Jenkins defeated Vincent Van Der Voort 3-2 3-1, Steve Brown ousted Steve Farmer 3-2 2-3 3-1 and Adrian Lewis got the better of an up-and-down encounter with Alan Tabern to emerge a 3-1 0-3 3-0 victor.

Elsewhere in the draw Gary Anderson came within a whisker of defeat to Ronnie Baxter before securing a 2-3 3-2 3-1 win.

Also through to the second round are Kevin Painter and Wayne Jones.

Painter was a 2-3 3-1 3-1 winner over Mark Dudbridge, while Jones saw off Mervyn King 3-2 2-3 3-1.

Taylor said afterwards he was happy with his display against Dolan.

"It's a very good start for me and I'm pleased to get the win," Taylor said on www.pdc.tv.

"Brendan was a little bit nervous and it wasn't as easy as it looked. I was pretty relaxed and came through it well. My finishing was good and I'm very pleased with that."
