Sprinter Ailis McSweeney has qualified for tomorrow's Women's 100m semi-finals on day two of the European championships in Barcelona.

The Leevale AC athlete finished fourth in her heat but qualified as the fastest loser.

Elsewhere Fionnuala Britton finished sixth in her heat of the Women's 3000m Steeplechase advanced to the final as a fastest loser, but Stephanie O'Reilly failed to qualify after finishing last in her heat.

Tori Pena failed to qualify for the pole vault final despite setting a new national record, and Olive Loughnane did not finish the 20km walk earlier this morning, the Loughrea AC athlete having been ill over the past number of days.

Later this evening David Gillick and Gordon Kennedy are in 400m semi-final action.
