Gebrselassie world record ratified

Haile Gebrselassie's world 30-kilometres road-running record of one hour 27 minutes 49 seconds has been ratified by the IAAF.

The Ethiopian achieved the feat en route to a fourth successive Berlin Marathon title on September 20.

His new mark replaces the previous figure of 1:28:00, recorded by Japan's Takayuki Matsumiya on home soil in Kumamoto in February 2005.
