Basketball Ireland chief executive resigns

The chief executive of Basketball Ireland, Debbie Massey, has resigned today.

Her resignation will take effect from December 23, 2009.

"The board would like to thank Debbie for her tireless efforts in the promotion and development of basketball in Ireland and her thorough professionalism at all times during her nine year tenure," said a Basketball Ireland statement.

"The board would like to acknowledge that Debbie has been instrumental in bringing the sport to a new level both in Ireland and internationally.

"The board of Basketball Ireland will be working closely with Debbie to help with the transition during the intervening period."

Massey felt the time was right for a new challenge.

"While it is a sad decision in some ways, I feel it is time for me to move on to new challenges,” said Massey. "I will reflect fondly on my time with Basketball Ireland and will continue to enjoy the many friendships built up over the last nine years."
