Lewis Hamilton was pleased to come through a challenging Singapore Grand Prix to capture his second victory of a frustrating year yesterday.

The McLaren driver produced a dominant performance to win from pole to cap a difficult weekend for the team after Hamilton’s indifferent displays during practice on Friday had done little suggest the reigning world champion would be competitive.

But, with championship leader Jenson Button having started in 11th following a disappointing qualifying session, Hamilton comfortably maintained his place at the front throughout yesterday’s race.

“It was a very, very tough race,” said the 24-year-old. “The conditions made it very tough, but generally the race was pretty straightforward for me.

“I got a good start and I just managed to bridge a big enough gap. I knew I was longer than the guys behind me, so I was never really under serious pressure.”
