Alonso: Renault focused on race

Fernando Alonso is adamant everyone within Renault is 100% focused despite the damaging effects of the last two days.

Fernando Alonso is adamant everyone within Renault is 100% focused despite the damaging effects of the last two days.

The 'crash-gate' furore has dominated Formula One over the last 48 hours, notably via the leaking of confidential documents and in the wake of the team commencing criminal proceedings against Nelson Piquet Jnr and his father, Nelson Piquet Snr.

Mercifully for Renault and team boss Flavio Briatore, their focus was today on events on the circuit, with Alonso qualifying eighth for tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Despite the issues, Alonso insists he and the team are giving their all as he said: "The determination is always the same.

"I've been very determined and focused all season, and here in Monza is no different for me, and there's no difference in the team.

"Everybody is very professional, giving 100% for the team, for Renault, as they have done all through the season.

"I've not seen any big difference here."

Even though Renault reintroduced KERS for this track, double world champion Alonso insists he could not have done any more.

"We've not been competitive all weekend, so we didn't expect to be any better than eighth," added Alonso.

"When you look at the times and you see another half a tenth (of a second) would have put us fifth, there is disappointment.

"But we have to be happy. It's what we deserved this weekend.

"As for the race, we think KERS will be a benefit. The start will be a big opportunity to see if it helps or not.

"If we don't make up any places at the start, then we have to say that bringing KERS here gave us no advantage.

"But if we do make up places, it's something we need to consider for the coming races.

"Tomorrow is the day to see if the choice to bring KERS here was the right one or not."
