Disappointment for hammer thrower O’Keeffe
Eileen O’Keeffe was unable to secure a place in Saturday’s Hammer final after today’s qualification round.
The Kilkenny city Harriers athlete had a throw of 63.20 with her first attempt but was unable to register a score on her next two throws.
O’Keeffe, who came sixth at the last World Championships in 2007, has been dogged with injury problems stemming from a knee injury sustained before the Beijing Olympics.
Earlier, Thomas Chamney has missed out on a place in the semi-final of the 800m at the World Championships in Berlin.
Chamney finished fifth in his heat in a time of 1.48.09 and was unlucky as he tangled with a fellow athlete during the race which hindered his run.
Next up for the Irish is Alistair Cragg, who will run in the heats of the 5,000m at 5:55pm.
