The woman who won the 800m final at the World Championships in Berlin last night has been asked to undergo a gender verification test.

Eighteen-year-old Caster Semenya, from South Africa, clocked the fastest time this year as she won the gold medal last night.

However, she could be stripped of the medal following revelations that she was asked three weeks ago to undergo a gender verification test after she knocked seven seconds off her own personal best time.

The test could take several weeks to complete.
