O'Rourke hoping to hit Berlin peak
Derval O'Rourke is hoping that her trip World Track and Field Championships which begin in Berlin this week will coincide with a peak in form.
The Cork hurdler, who had the world at her feet in 2006 following a World indoor gold and a European outdoor silver, is enjoying a return to form this after year after a period of injury and illness, already adding a 2009 European indoor bronze to her tally.
Now the Leevale AC athlete is hoping that with her form this season she can better her previous performances at the Worlds.
“I am really looking forward to Berlin," O'Rourke said, admitting however that her season so far had been "disjointed".
"Winning a medal in Turin was great and it was a real confidence boost for me but after that things have been a little strange with little injuries here and there.
"Despite the time I have been injured or sick my runs have been really good and that is a huge positive for me," she added.
"I know that my form has been good this season when I have run."
O'Rourke's championships will kick off in the heats of the 100m hurdles on Tuesday evening next.
"In the last two World Championships I have made semi-finals," she said.
"I really want to make a final and then put in a great performance if I get there. I feel good at the moment and I hope I can peak at the right time.”
