Reigning Dunlop National Rally champions, Patrick Elliott/Paul Goodman (Subaru WRC) returned to winning ways on today's Sligo Rally, the sixth round of the series.

They finished 13 seconds ahead of title rivals and current championship leaders, Niall Maguire/Enda Sherry (Subaru WRC).

Kevin Barrett/Sean Mullally (Subaru WRC) finished third.

Garry Jennings/David Moynihan (Mitsubishi) won the Group N category.

The two-wheel drive category was won by Russell Woods/Martin Byrne (Escort).

Elliott dominated the opening exchanges and posted the best times through the opening loop of three stages to amass a 22 second advantage over Barrett.

Maguire was five seconds further behind in third.

Meanwhile, Welsh driver, Mel Evans, debuting an S12B Subaru WRC was fourth as he concentrated on points for the MSA Asphalt Championship.

Fifth placed Jennings strengthened his position as Group N leader, he was over 30 seconds clear of Kevin Kelleher (Mitsubishi).

Early retirements included Sean Gallagher, who crashed his Subaru WRC and Anthony O'Halloran, who also retired on the opening stage.

Through the second loop, Maguire improved and courtesy of one fastest stage time, moved into second spot - 27 seconds behind leader, Elliott and seven seconds ahead of Maguire.

Evans, Jennings and Kelleher followed.

Maguire dominated through stages seven and eight and duly reduced Elliott's lead margin to 13 seconds.

However, as both posted the exact same time on the final stage, Elliott, who hadn't won a round since the Circuit of Kerry, emerged victorious.

Second placed Maguire leads the series by 14 points.

Barrett came home a solid third and Evans did enough to clinch the MSA Asphalt Championship.

Jennings moved to the top of the Group N standings in the chase for the Patterson's RallyNews Group N award .

After a brief period in the top ten, well-known co-driver, Paul Kiely (Mitsubishi) making his annual appearance as a driver, was eleventh overall.
