Ireland cricketers qualify for World Cup

Ireland confirmed their place at the 2011 World Cup today thanks to a six-wicket victory over Holland.

The Dutch, without star all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate who has returned to Essex for the start of the English domestic season, were asked to bat first and made 222 all out from their 50 overs.

Alex Cusack and Boyd Rankin picked up three wickets apiece, with Peter Connell snaring two and Trent Johnston and Regan West one each.

Opener Alexei Kervezee, who is on the books of Worcestershire, was the only player to really get going for Holland with 77 from 112 deliveries.

Ireland opener William Porterfield top-scored for Phil Simmons' side with 78 before being run out, while Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan also made a notable contribution with a quickfire 76 from 62 balls.

The O'Brien brothers, Niall and Kevin, then saw Ireland home with six wickets in hand and 5.3 overs to spare.
