Mary Cullen won has a bronze medal in the final of the 3000m at the European Indoor Championships in Turin today.

Cullen put in a gutsy performance after being clipped from behind and, after nearly falling over early in the race, she regained her composure and took the lead with four laps to go, stretching the field.

She led until the final 150m when she was overtaken by Turkey’s Almitu Bekele and then Portugal’s Sara Moriera, but she held on for a deserved bronze medal in a time of 8.48.47.

Bekele won in a time of 8.46.50 with Moriera finishing in 8.48.18.

The final Irish athletes to compete in this year’s championships are the 4x400m women’s relay team who will compete in the final at 4.35pm.

The victorious Irish team including Cullen, fellow Bronze medallist Derval O’Rourke and Irish record breaking long jumper Kelly Proper will all arrive back to Dublin airport at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon.
