David McCarthy qualified for the semi-final of the 800m as he finished as a fastest runner-up in his heat in a time of 1.49.59 at the European Indoor Championships in Turin, Italy.

David McCarthy qualified for the semi-final of the 800m as he finished as a fastest runner-up in his heat in a time of 1.49.59 at the European Indoor Championships in Turin, Italy.

The Waterford athlete will now race in the semi-finals tomorrow at 3.30pm.

Roisin McGettigan also made the final of the 1,500m after finishing as a fastest runner-up in her heat in a time of 4.12.25.

McGettigan will now race in tomorrow’s final which takes place at 4.35pm in the Oval Lingotto stadium.

There was disappointment for pole vaulter Zoe Brown as she failed to qualify, her attempt of 4.05m not enough to earn her a place in tomorrow’s final.

All eyes will now be on Derval O’Rourke who goes into the final of the 60m Hurdles at 5.40pm.

The Leevale athlete is second-fastest overall and will be confident of getting a medal.
