Bolt starts season off with a win

Triple Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt opened his season yesterday with a comfortable victory – over 400 metres.

The 22-year-old Jamaican – who triumphed over 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay in Beijing last year – clocked 46.35 seconds at the Camperdown Classics at the Stadium East field.

Running in lane five, Bolt had the race sewn up heading into the home straight before crossing the line with a huge smile on his face.

“It was all right. I am not really in the best of shape, but I’m happy I got through it and looking forward to (the UWI Invitational) next week,” he said.

“The first 300m was good. The last 100m needs some work.

“I’ll be running a couple more 400s, but the main aim (this year) is the 100 and 200.”
