Joyce through to European quarter finals
Reigning Irish featherweight champion David Oliver Joyce joined Ryan Lindberg and Ross Hickey in the quarter finals of the 37th European Senior Championships following a convincing 16-3 win over British 2008 Olympian Joe Murray at the Greenbank Academy in Liverpool this afternoon.
Joyce, from the St Michael's Athy club, will now face Ukrainian Olympic champion and 2007 World Championships silver medallist Vasyl Lomachenko with a bronze medal up for grabs in Wednesday's quarter finals.
Lindberg and Hickey progressed to the last eight after registering wins over Samir Mammadov of Azerbaijan and Oleksandr Kluchko of the Ukraine yesterday.
Donegal's Willie McLoughlin and Dublin's Conor Ahern bowed out following last 16 reversals to Germanys Jack Culcay-Keth and Salomo N'Tuve of Sweden on Saturday.
Kilkenny light heavyweight Darren O'Neill meets Latvian, Grishunis Nikolajs tonight.
The preliminary rounds of the Championships are being held at the Greenbank Academy with the finals pencilled in for the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday November 15th.
All 11 finals will be televised live by TG4 on November 15.
Forty nations are taking part in the 37th European Senior Championships.
