Beggs makes top 20 in ICC ODI Women’s Rankings

Ireland batter Caitriona Beggs is the only player from an Associate Member of the ICC to feature in the top 20 of the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Women’s Rankings, launched in Mumbai on Thursday.

Dubliner Beggs, who is currently living in New Zealand, was named 20th in the batting stands, just behind South Africa captain Cri-Zelda Brits.

“I am chuffed to be ranked in the top 20,” said Beggs. “I think the rankings are a great idea as it gives the girls something else to play for.”

Beggs believes that the development of the rankings will help create positive role models for upcoming international players.

“When I was growing up I always looked up to the likes of Emily Drumm and Debbie Hockley and so the rankings will help create an idea of who players should look up to,” she said.

The batting list is headed by England’s Claire Taylor while India captain Jhulan Goswami is on top of the bowling chart. Australia’s Lisa Sthalekar leads the all-rounders’ table.
