Czech smashes javelin record

Olympic champion Barbora Spotakova set a new women’s javelin world record in Stuttgart this afternoon.

Spotakova’s record-breaking throw of 72.28metres came in the first round of the IAAF/VTB Bank World Athletics Final.

The 27-year-old Czech secured a bonus of $100,000 by surpassing the previous record of 71.70m achieved by Cuba’s Osleidys Menendez at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki.
