Irish horse Latinus passes veterinary check

Denis Lynch's horse 'Lantinus' successfully passed the obligatory veterinary examination at Sha Tin in Hong Kong early this morning and is cleared to take part in the Olympic Individual Show Jumping Final tomorrow.

And according to odds quoted by bookmakers ahead of the final, the combination has a good chance of landing an Olympic Show Jumping medal, though it's unlikely to be gold.

Boylesports have quoted 7/4 for the Tipperary rider to win 'any medal' on his mount 'Lantinus', the pairing having comfortably come through the qualifying rounds earlier this week.

In what will be a very competitive and testing final, Boylesports make Lynch a 16-1 shot to go all the way and take the gold for Ireland.

Paddy Power and Celtic bookmakers give Lynch a better chance of gold, having quoted lower odds of 12-1, while both were offering 2-1 for 'any medal'.

Boylesports have made Germany's Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum the clear favourite for gold at 7-2.
