Hession progresses, O'Keeffe and Gillick exit
There was a mixed morning at the Olympic Stadium in Beijing for the trio of Irish athletes competing this morning.
David Gillick failed to qualify from the heats of the 400m in Beijing this morning, finishing fourth in his heat and not being one of the fastest losers to progress with a time of 45.83 seconds.
Eileen O’Keeffe also came up short in the qualifying round of the women’s hammer throw. Clearly still hampered by a recent injury, she threw 67.66m which was not enough to make the cut.
However, there was some joy for Paul Hession who made it through in his heats of the 200m.
He finished third with a time of 20.59 seconds and progresses to the next round of the event.
