Irish relay team set new junior record

The men’s 4 x 400m relay team set a new record in their heats at the World Junior Championships in Poland today.

Irish Junior 400m record holder, Brian Gregan, ran the anchor leg of the race and brought the team of Curtis Woods, Billy Ryan and Jason Harvey home in a time of 3.10:27.

Unfortunately the time was only good enough for a fourth place finish.

The race was won by the Unites States in a new Junior world record time of 3.05:25; Germany and Nigeria completed the qualifiers.

Tomorrow sees the talented 16-year-old, Ciara Mageean, take part in the final of the 1,500m.

The City of Lisburn runner came through her heat yesterday in a new personal best time of 4.21:73.
