Ireland win Round Robin International
Ireland beat France at the National Stadium in Dublin today to claim international Round Robin glory.
With both nations having beaten Germany and Italy on Friday and Saturday today's showdown was effectively a final and Ireland emerged victorious 5-3.
The impressive Tyrone McCullagh, John O'Neill - who beat the reigning European Cadet champion Eduard Schmidt from Germany on Saturday - Jamie Kavanagh and Steven Ward emerged victorious.
Ray Moylett received a walkover.
Kavanagh, of the Crumlin club was in top form, beating Chabane Fehim 19-10, and McCullagh, from the Illies Golden Gloves club in Donegal, showed his class versus Oktay Takalak.
Kildare featherweight O'Neill out-pointed Souleymane Cissokho in a top class 57Kg decider.
Monkstown light heavyweight Ward won the final bout of today's session, beating Bruno Chaumont Mutevellian - a win that ensured that Ireland finished on top and denied France a draw.
The president of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, Dominic O'Rourke, presented the team managers and trainers from each nation and the referees and judges with special silverware to mark the occasion.
