De la Rosa impresses at test session
Pedro de la Rosa completed McLaren’s total domination of this week’s test session at Monza.
Due to yesterday’s thunderstorms that wiped out any running in the morning, the session today stretched into a fourth and final day.
Nine of the 11 teams opted to stay on in order to try to optimise their dry running ahead of next weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, with only Renault and Spyker leaving yesterday.
Heavy overnight rain again delayed matters before sunshine finally broke through, enabling the teams to gain more valuable time on the legendary circuit.
World championship leader Lewis Hamilton had topped the unofficial timesheets on Tuesday, with team-mate and reigning world champion Fernando Alonso out in front on Wednesday and yesterday.
McLaren test driver de la Rosa did not let the team down as he set the fastest time at the 5.793km track with a lap of one minute 23.285 seconds.
However, that was just 0.004secs faster than Felipe Massa in his Ferrari, with Robert Kubica for BMW Sauber third and just under 0.3secs adrift.
Nico Rosberg (Williams), Jenson Button (Honda), Vitantonio Liuzzi (Toro Rosso), Ralf Schumacher (Toyota) and David Coulthard (Red Bull Racing) followed, with Anthony Davidson in his Super Aguri the last of the nine on track.
