Fernando Alonso clinched the 17th pole of his career, edging out McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton in a controversial qualifying session for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Reigning double world champion Alonso pipped Hamilton in the dying seconds, setting a time of one minute 19.674 seconds for the 4.384 km Hungaroring circuit.
