Lonsdale first for Ireland
Brian Magee’s bid to take Tony Oakey’s British light-heavyweight title in Dublin on August 25 will be the first time a Lonsdale belt has been fought for in the Republic of Ireland.
Magee and Oakey will meet at the Point in a promotion being staged by Brian Peters and Dennis Hobson.
The bill will also feature Irish star Bernard Dunne defending his European super-bantamweight title against mandatory challenger Kiko Martinez of Spain.
Peters, who manages Dunne, said: “It’s going to be one of the best bills ever staged in Ireland with two great matches.
“Bernard knows that Martinez is going to really test him. He’s a hungry unbeaten fighter with a string of knockouts but I’m confident that Bernard can come through it.”
