Hamilton claims first pole of F1 career
Rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton claimed the first pole position of his short Formula One career after holding off McLaren team-mate and world champion Fernando Alonso in qualifying for tomorrow's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
Hamilton, with a record five podium finishes in his first five races, turned in a time of 1:15.707 on the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, more than four-10ths of a second faster than Alonso in second as McLaren secured a one-two on the grid.
