Doherty to get Crucible campaign underway against Allen

Ireland's Ken Doherty gets his campaign underway today at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

The Dubliner takes on Mark Allen in the opening round of the competition at the Crucible Theatre.

Yesterday, Ronnie O'Sullivan stormed into an 8-1 lead in his best-of-19 clash with Chinese star Ding Jinhui, while John Parrott beat Steve Davis 10-9 in the battle of the veterans.

Peter Ebdon and Matthew Stevens also went through to the second round after wins over Nigel Bond and Joe Delaney respectively.
