Paisley and McGuinness unite to praise Irish cricketers
In a rare show of unity, political adversaries Ian Paisley (Democratic Unionist Party) and Martin McGuinness (Sinn Féin) today congratulated the Irish cricket team on their success at the recent World Cup.
The letter, addressed to ICU Chairman, Dr Murray Power reads:
"Dear Dr Power
We are writing to congratulate the Irish Cricket Team on their achievements at the Cricket World Cup.
Their marvellous achievement in qualifying for the tournament was surpassed by their qualification and performance in the ‘Super Eight’ stage and they have firmly put Irish cricket on the map.
This is a real boost for local grass roots cricket, and we are particularly delighted at the contribution of local players including Boyd Rankin, William Porterfield, Peter Gillespie, Kyle Mc Callan and Andrew White to the team's successes.
We would like to mark the team’s achievements with a reception at Parliament Buildings, Stormont and invite you to contact our respective Private Secretaries to make the necessary arrangements.
Yours sincerely
Ian R K Paisley
Martin McGuinness"
