An Irishman has won the annual North Pole marathon in temperatures of -25 degrees Celsius.

An Irishman has won the annual North Pole marathon in temperatures of -25 degrees Celsius.

Thomas Maguire, from Belcoo in Co Fermanagh, completed the 26.2-mile race in a record three hours and 36 minutes, seven minutes ahead of his nearest competitor.

He beat more than 40 international runners in the race on Saturday, which is organised by Galway man Richard Donovan, a pioneer of polar athletics.
