Irish Cricket Union pays tribute to Woolmer

The Irish Cricket Union this morning paid tribute to Bob Woolmer, coach of Pakistan, who passed away suddenly yesterday.

Irish team manager Roy Torrens said: "The news came as a terrible shock to all the Irish team and fans. I'd like to pass on my sympathies to his wife and family at this difficult time, as well as to the Pakistan Cricket Board.

"Bob was a true champion of the Associate Countries cause, and his work as High Performance manager was pioneering.

It was an indication of his nature as a true gentleman that he was the first to congratulate the Irish team on their victory on Saturday. He was very complimentary, and said that we were fully deserving of our win. It is a sad day for cricket."
